Mr. Alex Cardy
US History, World History
Mr. Cardy received his Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Maryland and his Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from UNLV.
An experienced educator, Mr. Cardy taught social studies at Rancho High School here in Las Vegas for 8 years, where he also served as wrestling coach. He is returning to teach there this year after one year in Maryland, where he taught both middle school and college courses. In addition, Mr. Cardy teaches at Beacon Academy of Nevada.
Mr. Cardy believes that when students have a positive relationship with their teacher and see the real-world value of what they are learning, they become active participants in their own learning, and the skills they develop and knowledge they accumulate stay with them. He uses techniques such as inquiry based learning and blended learning models to actively engage the students in the social studies classroom. He finds it very rewarding to give students the support they need to help them realize their potential and overcome their challenges.
